Glutathione

Glutathione is a substance that is generating a lot of buzz in the world of supplements; this potent antioxidant is essential for the proper functioning of our bodies. Glutathione, also known as L-glutathione, not only helps in the regeneration of cells, but it also helps to regulate the actions of other important antioxidants, such as Vitamin E and Vitamin C. As we age, however, the body's level of glutathione beings to drop, resulting in lower levels of this important antioxidant.

Glutathione Whitening

In recent news, glutathione is now being marketed as an internal supplement that can help to lighten and brighten the skin. With more people starting to use glutathione as a supplement for better health, some of them noticed that their skin was becoming more white as they used glutathione over several months or sometimes years.

Glutathione for Skin Lightening

While additional research is still needed, there is some evidence that the consumption of glutathione supplements can help to lighten the skin for some people, but the supplements must be consumed for a minimum of several months before results are noticeable. For other users, glutathione supplements did not cause any noticeable change to skin tone, color, or brightness.

The process by which glutathione can help to brighten the skin involves the substance's ability to inhibit a process that is known as tyrosinase activity. Glutathione can help to block the tyrosinase activity within the skin, which prevents the melanin within the skin from synthesizing natural light and turning the skin a darker color.

Glutathione Side Effects

Pure glutathione supplements without any other added ingredients generally have no adverse side effects. There are, however, a number of products on the market that are sold as glutathione that also include ingredients such as Goat/Sheep Placenta Extract, Tyrostat, and mega-doses of Vitamins A and E. The consumption of these glutathione supplements can result in a number of undesired effects that include nausea, diarrhea, and skin breakouts.

Glutathione Supplements

Some users may notice gradual skin lightening effects after using glutathione supplements for several months. Not all users will experience lighter skin, though. The main benefit of glutathione supplementation is for overall better health; this powerful antioxidant does a good job of helping the body to strengthen its immune system and fight damage caused by free radicals. Its effectiveness as a skin lightening product, however, is questionable.

Glutathione is a health supplement with plenty of other benefits, even if it is not terribly effective as a skin lightener and brightener. Medical research shows that glutathione can help to prevent and even treat certain types of cancer, and the supplement can also help to counter the negative effects from neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Multiple Sclerosis. In addition, glutathione has been shown to reduce the blood pressure level in patients who suffer from hypertension and diabetes. The substance may also help to prevent dangerous blood clots from forming within the circulatory system, and there is research that shows that glutathione can also help to improve liver functioning.
